Grapevine Team Spotlight: Kimberley Bond

Kimberley Bond is our Community Manager here at Grapevine and she’s kind of a big deal. Between running an 80k subscriber YouTube channel and campaigns at the Grapevine office, she somehow managed to find the time to sit down and chat with me. If you’ve worked with Grapevine, odds are you’ve probably spoken with Kim via e-mail before. But have you ever gotten to know her? Let’s figure out what goes on inside that wonderful head of hers.

Who is… Kimberley Bond.

I am the Community Manager at Grapevine. I am a YouTuber. I am a shopaholic. I am a cat owner, I’m a sister, I’m a daughter and I’m a girlfriend. I’m a whole bunch of things.

I’m originally from Boston, I grew up in Lancaster Pennsylvania and I moved back to Boston about 5 years ago.

And you’re not Amish?

No, I’m not Amish – contrary to popular belief.

Alright let’s hop right into this. What’s a movie that makes you cry?

Well let me think…  I’m a sucker for chick flicks. I always watch chick flicks. I’d probably say “P.S. I Love You”. Yep, I haven’t seen it in a couple years but “P.S I Love You” makes me cry every time.

Oh and Toy Story 3 made me cry. A lot. I felt so bad for throwing my toys away.

I’m so sorry Barbie.

If you could be any cereal what would you be?

I would probably be… Lucky Charms. Specifically the Heart.

Just the heart marshmallow? Why just the heart?

Yep. Only the heart. Because it’s pink and it’s a heart that that’s what I’m all about.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I would like to be a costume designer. That’s actually what I have my degree in. I really love the theater and I feel
like that would have been an amazing job if I hadn’t gone into YouTube.

Or y’know, a rockstar.

What’s your favorite stage show?

Oh definitely Phantom of the Opera.

I was never like a “theater kid” in school but I’ve always really loved the theater.

If there was a movie made about your life who would play you.

Hmm… You know I actually hear from my subscribers a lot that I look like Sarah Paxton.

She could definitely be a candidate. I feel like our forehead is the same. And we both have a butt-chin.

A butt-chin?

Yeah like when your chin has… a butt on it.

You mean a cleft?

Yeah, if you want to be normal about it.

What’s a weird food you eat in combination?

Barbecue sauce and eggs is hands down my favorite thing to eat. Sweet baby rays and sunny side up eggs.

You’re family’s not from the south, right?

Nope, I just put BBQ sauce on everything.

And who turned you on to that? When did that start?

I’ve been eating eggs like that since I was two years old. I hate ketchup so everything that people normally put ketchup on, I put BBQ sauce on.

Like fries. Mmm BBQ sauce and fries.

Favorite snack food?

Candy. Sweet, hard candy. Like lifesavers or nerds. Just anything sweet and also like a rock. If they made candy rocks I would eat those. *

What’s your obsession at the moment?

So right now it’s probably Rue La La. They’re an e-com site that has awesome flash sales every day. It’s kind of like a site built around impulse purchases and that “Buy something now or it’s going to sell out” mentality. That works really well on me.

Are you one of those sale junkies?

Oh god, no. I wish I was. I’m the exact opposite – I can’t stop buying things full price! I’ll walk through TJ MAXX or Nordstrom Rack and be like “oh thats cute… but meeeh” then I walk into the mall and see something VERY CLEARLY not on sale and fall madly in love with it. Then I kick myself and I’m like “Why did I just spend $400 on a bag! I can’t eat this week now!”

So you have a relatively prominent YouTube channel, what’s the best interaction you’ve have with a fan in recent memory?

A couple weeks ago I was in Boston with my boyfriend and we were in a bar and someone came up to me and said. “Oh I know you from YouTube!” I haven’t made videos in 2 months* I haven’t be relevant in a year and you know my face? It blew my mind. I was just like “HI!!” Do you…. wanna take a shot? ” I was just confused at first… it caught me off guard. You very rarely connect with the actual people that watch you, y’know? You get comments all the time from viewers but they’re all virtual. Then after being approached in real life you remember “Oh that’s right, I’m speaking to like 10,000 real people” You always think that the people watching you are so far away from you when in reality, they could be right down the street.

What’s the strangest thing to happen to you recently

Oh, EVERY day on the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority) is the strangest thing that has happened to me lately. I’ve actually talked about making a blog about MBTA problems. Everyday I see somebody wearing something or I see somebody doing something or I overhear a conversation. And I hear and see the most absurd thing. I’ve taken public transportation before and the MBTA is in a league of its own.

I’m going to need an example now after that.

I have someone fall asleep and drool on me at LEAST once or twice a month. I usually give ’em a little push and that wakes them up.
I had a guy tell me a story about his goldfish named Gary. He continued tell me the story even after I got off the train. Like I looked back through the window and he was still talking to where I was. Oh and I had someone a few months ago dressed head to toe in a pilgrim costume sit down next to me and ask me “How does my make-up look?”

He wasn’t wearing any make-up.

The MBTA is insane.

Thanks for sitting down and chatting with me Kim!

My pleasure! This was fun

Check out Kim’s YouTube Channel and follow her on Twitter. She’s great.
